What does 69 seconds mean to you?

If you’re a runner, love sports, world records, inspirational stories, and/or the power of human potential … you might know what I’m talking about.

On September 25, 2022, Eliud Kipchoge broke his own world record as he crossed the finishing line of the Berlin Marathon in 2 hours, 1 minute and 9 seconds. Now, he is only 69 seconds away from breaking the elusive sub-2 hour marathon barrier. Three years earlier in Vienna he did run a marathon distance in 1:59:40:2, however this didn’t count as a new marathon record because standard competition rules for pacing weren’t followed and it wasn’t an ‘open event’.

You might be saying, well that’s great Sue, but I don’t even like running so what has that got to do with me?

Everything and nothing depending on your perspective. I feel there are lessons everywhere in life if we choose to open our hearts, eyes and minds to a different perspective.

Another history lesson, bear with me …. on May 6th, 1954, Roger Bannister, an English neurologist, was the 1st human being to run a mile in under 4 minutes. Many runners had been ‘chasing this goal’ for decades although didn’t achieve it. It had become as much a psychological battle as it was a physical one.

Doctors and scientists said breaking the four-minute mile was impossible, that one would die in the attempt. Thus, when I got up from the track after collapsing at the finish line, I figured I was dead. Just because they say it’s impossible doesn’t mean you can’t do it.” Sir Roger Bannister

Since this time, more than a thousand runners have ‘conquered a barrier’ that people had previously believed was impossible to reach.

This isn’t all about running this is ALL ABOUT YOU.

– What are you saying out loud and to yourself about your health that you feel is impossible?
– What are you believing to be true about your current health situation?
– What identity do you have around your health?
– What do you need to think, say and believe about your health to turn impossible into ‘I’m possible’

This can relate to your health OR to any other area of your life you want to focus on and improve.

“No human is limited. If you want to break through, your mind should be able to control your body. I think 1:59 is somrthing a human being can run. If you believe in something and put in your mind and heart it can be realised.” Eliud Kipchoge
