What does 69 seconds mean to you?
If you’re a runner, love sports, world records, inspirational stories, and/or the power of human potential … you might know what I’m talking about.
On September 25, 2022, Eliud Kipchoge broke his own world record as he crossed the finishing line of the Berlin Marathon in 2 hours, 1 minute and 9 seconds. Now, he is only 69 seconds away from breaking the elusive sub-2 hour marathon barrier. Three years earlier in Vienna he did run a marathon distance in 1:59:40:2, however this didn’t count as a new marathon record because standard competition rules for pacing weren’t followed and it wasn’t an ‘open event’.
You might be saying, well that’s great Sue, but I don’t even like running so what has that got to do with me?
Everything and nothing depending on your perspective. I feel there are lessons everywhere in life if we choose to open our hearts, eyes and minds to a different perspective.
Another history lesson, bear with me …. on May 6th, 1954, Roger Bannister, an English neurologist, was the 1st human being to run a mile in under 4 minutes. Many runners had been ‘chasing this goal’ for decades although didn’t achieve it. It had become as much a psychological battle as it was a physical one.
